Hello, my name is Coreen Arioto. I am a daughter, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a new grandmother, a friend, a cousin, a Registered Nurse, a Family Nurse Practitioner, an author, and an artist.
In 2019, a catastrophic stroke rocked my world. My life as I knew it was forever changed.
I started drawing and painting as a therapeutic outlet. I had ignored my creative side for a long time during my medical career. I had spent most of my professional time working with children, so writing children’s books was not too far out of my wheelhouse.
One night I had an idea for The Lone Oak Tree, as I wrote and illustrated that story, I knew I had found my passion.
My involvement with genealogy, and my Danish immigrant great-grandmother, led me to write, The Story of Papa Nisse, The 3 Little Nisser, and Papa Nisse Goes to Solvang.
After that, my imagination had no limits. I began to see the stories and their messages clearly. I enjoy writing about the people I love and my life experiences. I was inspired to write a series of books about my horses. Each had a valuable tale to tell. First, there was Teddy: The Story of a Special Icelandic Horse, Teddy & Storm: A Story about Friendship, The Horses of Iceland, and Whiskey Boy: The Story of the Little Pony That Could.
I encourage everyone to pick up a journal and start writing. It can be very cathartic. Dabble in drawing. Experiment with painting. Take an art class. It doesn’t have to be formal. Exercise the right hemisphere of your brain where creativity lives.
I have written over 20 books at various levels of production/publication. My next project is stories about twins and their shenanigans. Moving forward, I wish to travel and broaden my knowledge of different cultures to influence and enlighten my writing.
This journey is only the beginning for me, writing and art have given me back a purpose in life. For that, I am eternally grateful.
